This image is not mine, and I have not been able to trace rightful owner. My own photo, taken from the Stresa-Isola Bella ferry, was too fuzzy. Thank you, I will try to make things right. In case you were wondering, the house is private property.
Update: 07/12/14, I have to thank Nicki Dal Pozzo, via whose blog post, I was able to identify this as Villa Barberis.
This enabled me to find out more, including the fact that, for a mere 595,000 euro, you can buy an apartment overlooking the Isola Bella and the Isola Pescatori in this lovely, early 20th-centiry villa. Details here. Even if you are not in the market for a Lago Maggiore house with magnificent vistas, check out the photos to get an idea of what the islands and the lake look like from there.
If you are in the market for an overnight or more in a luxury hotel on the lake, albeit above Arona, then you might check out the place that Nicki Dal Pozzo has spent the last thirty years taking care of, as her blog explains. It’s called Castello Dal Pozzo and, indeed, Nicki married into the family that have owned the castle for many generations. Here’s the link.
